How can you determine what is the right type of floor for you?

If you’re a beginner with flooring decisions, let’s start right at the beginning. Are you looking for commercial or residential flooring? If you’re looking for flooring in an area like a school, public building or your business, then commercial flooring is the way to go!

If you know that you need commercial flooring, then you may be looking to see what are some problems you may experience with commercial flooring. Well, you’ve come to the right place. To really get an idea of some issues you may experience, we will list some of the types of commercial flooring and the issues that should be considered.

• Carpet / Commercial; if you’re looking for a nice clean crisp look in flooring, sometimes carpet can be the way. However, carpet does tend to shed. Perhaps you’ve noticed on some carpets there seems to be some small balls of carpet or ‘fluff’? Well that does tend to happen with carpet. It can easily be vacuumed, but if you’re looking for more of a crisp look always and are not looking forward to bringing out the vacuum, the carpet may not be what you’re looking for. Also, if there is a lot of high traffic, you should be reminded of static electricity. There’s nothing worse than being a customer and reaching for the door and getting a good shock as you walk out!

• Vinyl / Commercial; Thanks to the easy cleanup, water resistant, low maintenance, vinyl flooring tends to be a popular choice in commercial flooring choices. While there are many benefits with vinyl flooring, there are some long-term issues to consider. If you’re concerned with fading or dullness of the finish, then this is something to consider. While this is certainly a long-term issue, it is still something to consider. Just like with most things in our lives, as time goes on it is only natural for the vividness/brightness to fade. You can certainly extend the lifetime of your vinyl flooring with extra care such as a mat, proper cleaning and floor sealer.

• Wood/ Commercial; Wood flooring is always a beautiful choice for flooring, however, there are also some things to consider. Firstly, if you are looking for a more affordable option for a greater amount of space, then you may not want to head towards hardwood flooring as it tends to be more expensive. Especially if you are considering the upkeep and cleaning that goes into making sure it stays looking shiny and new. Also, if this is an area of high traffic with chances of scrapes and nicks, you also would want to shy away from hardwood as it is more susceptible to these types of damages.
